    Muddy Waters Sings Big Bill Broonzy is my favorite studio blues album for several reasons. To begin with, even though Muddy Waters is singing Broonzy's traditional Delta blues, Waters proves that he was the one who first electrified the blues; the guitar work is outstanding, but never superfluous/5(27).

    Waters's tribute album to the man who gave him his start on the Chicago circuit, this stuff doesn't sound much like Broonzy so much as a virtual recasting of his songs into Muddy's electric Chicago style.     If you're going to sweat a Big Bill Broonzy collection down to only one disc, this is the one to keep in the collection. It's really his most representative work, highlighting most of the best-known numbers from his extensive repertoire and the highlights (including a hilarious "When I've Been Drinkin'," in which he supposedly downs several shots on microphone during the take) are numerous.
